Israeli War Cabinet Considers “Clear, Forceful” Response to Iranian Aggression

In response to recent provocations from Iran, the Israeli war cabinet has signaled a firm stance, stating that Iran’s aggression cannot be ignored and warrants a decisive response. According to a report by Israeli news outlet Channel 12, the cabinet emphasized the necessity of a “clear, forceful” reaction to Tehran’s actions.

Israeli officials reiterated their commitment to preventing Iran from establishing what they perceive as an unfavorable balance of power through attacks on Israeli territory. The Israeli Air Force, equipped with a squadron of US-made F-16, F-15, and F-35 fighter jets, is reportedly preparing for a potential counter-strike against Iran. However, no specific timeline for such action has been provided.

Despite the readiness for retaliation, Israeli authorities have stressed their reluctance to escalate tensions into a wider regional conflict. The United States has urged Israel to exercise restraint, with President Joe Biden warning Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the US will not participate in a military offensive against Iran.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant reiterated Israel’s position during a conversation with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, emphasizing that Israel feels compelled to respond to the recent missile and drone attacks launched by Iran over the weekend.

In a statement, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) chief Herzi Halevi affirmed Israel’s intention to retaliate against the attacks, stating, “The launch of so many missiles and drones to Israeli territory will be answered with a retaliation.”

Iran, for its part, has warned against further escalations, with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian cautioning Israel against any “adventure.” Iranian officials have indicated that they stand ready to respond immediately and with greater force if provoked further.

International concerns have also been raised regarding the possibility of Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) expressed apprehension but announced that inspections of Iranian facilities would resume, unaffected by the recent attacks. IAEA Chief Rafael Grossi urged all parties to exercise “extreme restraint” in light of the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.
