India’s 1st Underwater Metro In Kolkata Opens Tomorrow

India’s first under-river metro tunnel, constructed in Kolkata, is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow, March 6.
PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate several major metro and rapid transit projects across countries, marking a significant step towards improving urban mobility and connectivity in a momentous development that is set to transform urban transportation.

The first transportation tunnel in India to cross a significant river is part of the Kolkata Metro extension, which includes the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade Metro section. This is a significant development in the nation’s infrastructure.

This section demonstrates the technological prowess that went into its construction as well as the strategic significance of linking two of Kolkata’s busiest areas to improve the effectiveness and reach of the city’s public transportation system.

The Prime Minister will also open the Taratala – Majerhat Metro section and the Kavi Subhash – Hemanta Mukhopadhyay Metro section, both of which are a part of the Joka-Esplanade line, in addition to the underwater metro.

The latter includes the architecturally stunning Majerhat Metro Station, an elevated station that spans platforms, railroad lines, and a canal. It further exemplifies the creative strategy for enhancing urban mobility.
