An Indian embassy official has reportedly been found dead under mysterious circumstances within the mission premises in Washington. According to reports, local police and the Secret Service are investigating the incident, which took place on Wednesday, and are considering the possibility of suicide.

The embassy confirmed the death in an official statement on Friday but provided no further details. “With deep regret, we confirm that a member of the Embassy of India passed away on the evening of September 18, 2024. We are in contact with all relevant agencies and the family to facilitate the prompt repatriation of the remains to India,” the statement read.

The embassy added that additional information about the deceased would not be disclosed out of respect for the family’s privacy. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time. We appreciate your understanding,” it concluded.
