Hemant Mistry, a 59-year-old Indian-American man and motel manager originally from Gujarat, India, was tragically killed following an assault outside a motel parking lot in Oklahoma City on Saturday night.

According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, the incident occurred around 10:00 pm when Mistry confronted 41-year-old Richard Lewis, asking him to leave the motel property. CCTV footage captured the moment Lewis responded by punching Mistry in the face, causing him to fall immediately and sustain fatal injuries.

Police were summoned to the scene shortly after the assault. An official release from the department stated, “Officers arrived and learned 59-year-old Hemant Mistry was in the process of asking 41-year-old Richard Lewis to leave the property. While doing so, Lewis punched Mistry one time, knocking him unconscious.”

Mistry was rushed to a nearby hospital where he tragically succumbed to his injuries the following day.

Lewis was later located at a hotel and taken into custody. The investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
