A 35-year-old techie died by suicide in Hyderabad, six months after her wedding. Devika took her life at her Hyderabad home on Sunday night. Her husband Satish, also an engineer, informed the police and Devika’s family that she had hanged herself.

The couple entered into a nuptial knot six months back at a ceremony in Goa. Following Devika’s death, her family has alleged that Satish had been harassing her over dowry and that had pushed her into taking this extreme decision.

According to reports, Satish and Devika were colleagues and began the relationship after they met at work. They eventually decided to marry and the two families agreed. The wedding took place in August-end last year.

Local media reported that the couple had a fight on Sunday night. After that Devika locked herself in a room. She did not respond to Satish’s knocks and he assumed she would be sleeping. When she did not come out of the room the next morning, he broke open the door to find her hanging. He then informed her family and also the police. In a complaint at Raidurgam police station, Devika’s mother Ramalakshami has alleged that Satish harassed her over dowry and this may have forced her to take her life. Police have said a probe is on.
