The much-anticipated Hong Kong International Cricket Sixes, one of cricket’s most exciting and fast-paced tournaments, is set to make its grand return after a seven-year break. Organized by Cricket Hong Kong, China (CHK), the tournament will take place from November 1st to 3rd, 2024, at the Tin Kwong Road Cricket Ground. Cricket fans across the globe are excited as 12 nations will compete in this thrilling event.
In a special announcement made on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), CHK confirmed that the Indian cricket team would be one of the participating nations. “Team India is gearing up to smash it out of the park at HK6,” read the post, signaling India’s intent to leave a mark on the tournament.
The Hong Kong Cricket Sixes, which debuted in 1992, has long been known for its unique, action-packed format. Each match consists of two teams of six players, with each side facing a maximum of five six-ball overs. Every player, except the wicketkeeper, is required to bowl one over. However, the final match will follow a slight variation with teams bowling five eight-ball overs, adding an extra element of excitement.
Pakistan, one of the tournament’s most successful teams with five titles to their name, has already announced their six-player squad for the event. All-rounder Faheem Ashraf will lead the squad, which includes experienced players like Asif Ali and Hussain Talat.
Pakistan’s HK6 Squad consists of Faheem Ashraf (captain), Aamer Yamin, Asif Ali, Danish Aziz, Hussain Talat, Muhammad Akhlaq (wicketkeeper) and, Shahab Khan.
The Hong Kong Cricket Sixes has been a staple in the cricketing calendar, sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and known for attracting top cricketing talents, including legends like Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Anil Kumble. South Africa, England, and Pakistan share the record for the most tournament victories, each with five titles. South Africa is the reigning champion, having defeated Pakistan in the 2017 final. Other previous winners include India, Sri Lanka, Australia, and the West Indies.
