After the kiss, the bride’s family stormed onto the stage to beat the groom. They said that the bride had been forced to kiss the groom. But the bride wanted to be kissed during the varmala ceremony, the man insisted.
“In the middle of the night, around 1.30 am, a call came for the police,” Hapur ASP Rajkumar Agrawal said. “Nearly a dozen people found themselves detained, booked under CrPC 151 (arrest to prevent commission of cognisable offences). Five ended up at the hospital, nursing injuries, before being discharged. However, no official complaints reached the police station,” Agrawal added.
Two sisters were getting married in the Ashok Nagar neighborhood of Hapur. The cop said, “The younger sister’s groom kissed her on stage, igniting a fight while the elder sister’s marriage was handled amicably.
The families wanted to call-off the marriage after the incident. The couple, however, declined and insisted on carrying out the wedding. The elders then stepped in and made the decision to hold the ceremony later.
