The Henley Passport Index for 2024 has been made public, and India’s passport ranking has dropped from 84th to 85th place, with France taking the top spot.
It may come as a surprise that India’s ranking has dropped, given that Indian passport holders can now enter 62 countries this year without a visa, up from 60 last year.
Based on the strength of their passports, countries are ranked by the Henley Passport Index. France tops the list in 2024 with a passport that allows entry without a visa to 194 nations.
Alongside France among the top-ranked nations are Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain.
Bangladesh has dropped from 101st to 102nd place, while Pakistan remains in 106th place, unchanged from the previous year.
Maldivians, who are India’s neighbor, continue to have a strong passport; they are currently ranked 58th and allow passport holders to visit 96 countries without a visa.
The index is updated monthly and serves as a global standard for citizens of independent countries.
