Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and two senior IPS officers are among five individuals booked in an attempt to murder case following a complaint by TDP MLA K Raghurama Krishna Raju. The two IPS officers implicated are former CID chief PV Sunil Kumar and former Intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu.
Undi MLA K Raghurama Krishna Raju alleged that in 2021, he was arrested by the CID in Hyderabad under a criminal conspiracy orchestrated by Jagan Mohan Reddy and other officials. Raju, a former member of the YSR Congress Party, claimed that after his arrest, he was not produced before the local magistrate and that the CID lacked a transit arrest warrant when they shifted him to their office in Guntur.
“On May 14, 2021, I was arrested without due process. I was bullied, unlawfully pulled inside a police vehicle, and forcibly taken to Guntur that same night,” Raju stated in his complaint.
Raju alleged that PV Sunil Kumar, PSR Anjaneyulu, and other police officers thrashed him with belts and sticks, denying him access to his heart medication despite knowing he had undergone bypass heart surgery. He claimed that officers “sat on his chest” and applied pressure in an attempt to kill him, took away his phone, and beat him until he disclosed its password.
Raju further alleged that he was taken to a government hospital where he received inadequate care from Dr. Prabhavathi, who he claimed issued fake medical certificates at the behest of police officials. He also alleged that PV Sunil Kumar threatened to kill him if he criticized then-Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.
In addition to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, PV Sunil Kumar, and PSR Anjaneyulu, the case also names Dr. Prabhavathi, former superintendent of Guntur Government General Hospital, and retired police officer R Vijay Paul.
