On Monday, the non-political Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) announced that they would burn BJP effigies on August 1 and stage tractor marches across the nation on August 15 in protest of farmers’ demands, which include a formal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
Speaking at a press conference, KMM leader Sarvan Singh Pandher said that on August 31, the farmers’ “Delhi Chalo” march will have completed 200 days. He urged people to travel to Khanauri and Shambhu points, which are located on the border between Punjab and Haryana.
On August 1, farmers will march to district headquarters across the nation and burn effigies of the ruling BJP, according to a joint statement released by SKM (Non-Political) and KMM.
Tractor marches through districts will be organized by farmers on August 15 to protest a number of issues, including a legal guarantee of MSP for crops.
Farmers from Punjab led by SKM (Non-Political) and KMM began the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march to Delhi on February 13 to demand MSP for crops, among other things, but were stopped by Haryana Police, who had set up barricades, including cemented blocks, on the Ambala-New Delhi national highway.
Following their altercation with police officers, the farmers set up camp at the border crossings at Shambhu and Khanauri.
Farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohar said, “We want to make one thing clear that whenever the borders are reopened, we will load our belongings in our trolleys and move towards Delhi within a week because on February 13, we came out to go to Delhi.”
