In a tragic incident on Diwali night in Bengaluru, a man lost his life after participating in a dangerous betting challenge involving fireworks. The victim, identified as 32-year-old Sabarish, was under the influence of alcohol when he agreed to the challenge from his friends. According to local reports, the group had been drinking before deciding to burst firecrackers outside.

The bet was simple but deadly: the person who could sit on a cardboard box with a powerful firecracker placed underneath it would win a new autorickshaw. CCTV footage of the incident shows Sabarish sitting on the box, surrounded by his friends. After lighting the fuse, his friends quickly ran for cover, leaving him alone. Sabarish remained seated, waiting for the firecracker to explode. Moments later, the cracker went off with a powerful blast.

As thick smoke filled the air, his friends returned to find Sabarish collapsed on the road. Despite their efforts to check on him, it was clear that the explosion had caused severe internal damage. Reports suggest that the shockwave from the blast had ruptured his internal organs, leading to his death.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident, and a case of culpable homicide has been filed. Six individuals involved in the ill-fated challenge have been arrested and presented before the court. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Bengaluru) Lokesh Jagalasar confirmed the arrests, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. The shocking incident has prompted authorities to warn against such reckless behavior, especially during festivals when fireworks are commonly used for celebration.
