Former US President Donald Trump has shared Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent three-hour podcast with US-based podcaster and AI researcher Lex Fridman on his Truth Social platform. The move, seen as an endorsement of Modi, was posted on Monday morning (India time).
Trump, who shares a close relationship with Modi, had met the Indian leader last month during his visit to the White House. During their cordial interaction, Trump referred to Modi as a “tough negotiator.”
In his conversation with Fridman, Modi spoke about his friendship with Trump, praising his “humility” and “resilience.” He noted that Trump appeared “far more prepared” for leadership in comparison to his first term as US President. Modi also commended Trump’s unwavering dedication to America, recalling how he remained fearless even after an assassination attempt during last year’s election campaign.
“His life is dedicated to his nation. His unwavering commitment reflects his ‘America First’ approach, just as I believe in ‘India First.’ That’s why we connect so well,” Modi remarked during the podcast.
The Prime Minister also reminisced about the “Howdy Modi” event in Houston, where he and Trump had addressed a massive audience. He recalled how Trump had walked into the crowd with him without hesitation, catching even his security team off guard.
“In American political life, it’s almost unheard of for a President to walk into a crowd of thousands. But without a second thought, he did it. That moment was truly touching for me,” Modi said, emphasizing the trust and mutual bond they shared.
Reflecting on their first meeting at the White House, Modi revealed that Trump broke all formal protocols and personally gave him a tour of the premises—without any notes, cue cards, or aides.
Despite the change in the US administration, Modi said his trust and camaraderie with Trump remained strong. He shared that even after leaving office, Trump consistently referred to him as a friend. “Whenever someone we both knew met him, he would say, ‘Modi is my friend, send him my regards.’ Such gestures are rare,” Modi added.
In February, Modi and Trump met in the Oval Office for wide-ranging discussions on trade and defense. During the talks, Trump reiterated his admiration for Modi, once again calling him a “tough negotiator.”
Responding to the remark, Modi said, “I appreciate his kind words. But in negotiations, I always prioritize my country’s interests. I advocate for India in a positive manner, ensuring no one takes offence.”
Their meeting at the Oval Office was marked by a warm hug, symbolizing their longstanding friendship. Trump described Modi as a “great friend” and acknowledged his leadership.
