In view of the increasing cases of deepfakes and online fraud, the central government implemented a new ‘AI Governance Policy’ yesterday. Under this policy, it will now be mandatory for all social media and AI companies to add a ‘watermark’ to suspicious content. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has directed that any misleading information must be removed within 24 hours, failing which strict legal action will be taken against the concerned platform.
