Delhi Doctor Blackmailed To Pay ₹ 9 Lakh By Sextortion Gang

A 71-year-old doctor in Delhi was shocked to see a woman in a provocative position on the other end of a video call he had taken at midnight, thinking it was a patient in need of assistance. Following a protracted cycle of extortion and blackmail that saw the doctor transfer close to ₹ 9 lakh to a sextortion gang, police said on Thursday. A video of his interaction with the woman during the call was recorded.
After enduring the ordeal for a considerable amount of time, the doctor filed a case with the Delhi Police, which resulted in the arrest of two Rajasthani brothers. It is believed that the men, who operated a sextortion scheme, used the same method to blackmail 25 additional people.

According to an official, the doctor went to the East District Cyber Police Station and complained about being the target of repeated video calls and blackmail by a gang that threatened to post a video of their conversation on social media. Despite having transferred almost ₹ 8.6 lakh to the gang, he informed the police that the calls and demands persisted.

“Seven phones have been recovered from their possession, including the device used to make the original video call, and the phone and SIM card used to make the extortion call,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East District) Apoorva Gupta.

The brothers have been identified as 39-year-old Abdul Rehman, who has a wife and three children, and his brother Aamir Khan, 26, who are residents of the Mewat area in Deeg district, Rajasthan. They were remanded in police custody for five days.
