Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal Denied In-Person Family Visits, Claims AAP

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh alleged on Saturday that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently incarcerated at Tihar Jail, has been denied permission to meet his family, including his wife Sunita, in person. Singh labeled the move as ‘inhumane,’ stating that Kejriwal can only see his wife through a window, with meetings restricted to the ‘mulakat jangla,’ an iron mesh separating inmates from visitors.

Singh criticized the denial of in-person meetings as an attempt to break Kejriwal’s morale, highlighting the disparity where even hardcore criminals are allowed such meetings. While there was no immediate response from Tihar authorities, Kejriwal had previously met his wife and personal secretary inside the prison on Tuesday.

The jail administration has now scheduled a meeting between Kejriwal and his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann for April 15, specifying that it would occur in the ‘mulakat jangla.’ Singh further alleged an inquiry into Kejriwal for purportedly sending messages to his MLAs via lawyers, with threats to halt his meetings.

Singh condemned the Modi government, accusing it of penalizing Kejriwal for providing free amenities to Delhiites and likening Tihar to “Hitler’s gas chamber,” where the CM supposedly cannot even communicate for public service. Since his arrest on March 21, Kejriwal has reportedly sent messages to party leaders and directives to Delhi ministers through his wife and legal representatives.

Singh also criticized the presence of eight to nine policemen during Kejriwal’s lawyer meetings in jail, claiming it violated rules allowing inmates to converse with lawyers privately.
