Delhi Assembly Polls: Election Commission To Announce Election Schedule At 2 pm Today

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is all set to announce the dates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections on Tuesday. The press conference will take place at 2 pm at Vigyan Bhawan, where the election schedule will be unveiled. The term of the 70-member Delhi Assembly ends on February 23, and elections must be held before that to form a new House. Historically, Delhi has conducted Assembly elections in a single phase, and speculations suggest that polling could be scheduled for the second week of February.

Delhi has a total of 70 Assembly seats, and it is expected that the elections will be held in a single phase. This announcement will mark the official start of the election process, leading to a heated political contest in the national capital.

In the 2020 Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) dominated, winning 62 out of 70 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured eight seats, while the Congress failed to win any seats. Voter turnout in 2020 was 62.82%, a decrease of 4.65% compared to the 2015 Assembly election.

The upcoming elections are expected to be a three-way contest between AAP, BJP, and Congress. The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP aims to secure its third consecutive term, building on its previous electoral successes. Meanwhile, both the BJP and Congress are preparing to challenge AAP’s dominance. The BJP hopes to end AAP’s winning streak, while Congress aims to regain its footing in the city’s political arena.
