Delhi AQI ‘Severe’, Visibility Low in NCR; GRAP-3 Imposed

The air quality in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) has plunged into the ‘severe’ category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) registering dangerously high levels. Due to the severe pollution, visibility has drastically reduced, affecting travel conditions across the city. In several parts of Delhi on Friday morning there was a thick layer of smog once again blanketing the National Capital Region, including Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram.

    1. GRAP-3 Activation: The government has enforced the third stage of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), intensifying measures to combat the pollution.
    2. Schools Shift to Online Mode: In light of the worsening air quality, primary schools in Delhi have transitioned to online classes to protect children from exposure to harmful air.
    3. Health Alerts Issued: Authorities have advised vulnerable groups, including children, elderly people, and those with pre-existing health conditions, to stay indoors.
    4. Construction and Demolition Bans: As part of GRAP-3 measures, construction and demolition activities have been halted until air quality improves.
    5. Industries Under Scrutiny: Polluting industries in the region have been ordered to limit operations, and those contributing to significant emissions are under increased monitoring.
    6. Vehicular Restrictions: To curb vehicular emissions, the Delhi government has imposed restrictions on the movement of vehicles, especially trucks entering the city.
    7. Smog Impact on Health: Health experts warn of the long-term consequences of breathing in toxic air, urging residents to wear masks and avoid outdoor activities. The Delhi government is continuing its efforts to reduce pollution levels in the long term, focusing on measures to curb stubble burning, vehicle emissions, and industrial pollution. The situation remains critical, and authorities are working on immediate and extended solutions to combat the pollution crisis.
