Just as his flight to New Delhi was about to take off, Indian cricketer and Karnataka captain Mayank Agarwal fell ill and was taken to a nearby hospital. The player filed a formal police complaint accusing foul play against air carrier IndiGo.
He consumed liquid from a pouch that IndiGo Airlines had left on his seat which he mistook for water. Agarwal has filed an official police complaint through his manager. “International cricket player Mayank Agarwal. His vital signs are normal and he is now stable. But his manager has lodged a specific complaint under NCCPS (New Capital Complex Police Station) to investigate the matter,” SP West Tripura Kiran Kumar told PTI.
When pressed for specifics, the top police officer added: “His manager mentioned that there was a pouch in front of him while he was seated in the aircraft. He didn’t drink much, but then his mouth started to hurt and he lost the ability to speak. He was taken to ILS hospital. He suffered from mouth ulcers and swelling. His vitals are stable otherwise.”
Kiran Gitte, the state secretary of health, continued, saying, “Police have acknowledged his complaint, and we will look into what happened”.
“He (Agarwal) is not in any kind of danger. He is under observation currently in a hospital at Agartala, and we will fly him back to Bengaluru once we get an update from the doctors, which we are expecting tonight,” a Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) official told PTI. However, Agarwal will not play the next Ranji Trophy game against Railways in Surat.
