CRED User Wins Big, But MacBook Jackpot is Cancelled Due to “Technical Glitch”

In a dramatic turn of events, a CRED user, Aviral Sangal, won the platform’s Friday jackpot, which included prizes worth Rs 3.25 lakh: a MacBook, iPad, AirPods Max, and a TUMI bag. However, his excitement quickly turned into disappointment as the Bengaluru-based company cancelled his jackpot win, citing a “technical glitch.”

Aviral shared his ordeal on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), tagging CRED’s founder, Kunal Shah. “Even though I usually do not fall for the CRED jackpots, yesterday I played the Friday jackpot without expecting much. To my surprise, I won big,” Sangal wrote. He claimed that the company initially asked for his PAN details to process the TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) on the prizes, but later informed him that the jackpot had been cancelled.

Instead of receiving the highly anticipated rewards, Sangal was refunded his points and offered Rs 1,000 as a “goodwill gesture,” which he refused. He posted further updates, alleging that CRED cancelled the jackpot due to a bug that resulted in 200 users winning the same prize. “They decided to cancel the jackpot instead of pausing, fixing the bug, and honouring the 200 users who had already won,” he said.

Sangal called for CRED to publicly acknowledge the incident and honour the rewards for all affected users. He hinted at the possibility of legal action if the company did not meet his demands, vowing to stand his ground.

His posts have garnered significant attention on social media, with users expressing support and sharing similar experiences. One user commented, “File a case, it’ll be interesting to see how the court rules on this.” Another shared, “Same happened to me, but for Rs 40,000. After numerous emails and calls, I finally got my vouchers. Don’t give up.”

While CRED has not yet made a public statement regarding the incident, the controversy has sparked debate on social media about the company’s accountability and how technical issues should be handled, especially when they affect a large number of users.
