Consulted Party Workers Before Decision to Join NDA: Jayant Singh

Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) leader Jayant Singh revealed on Monday that the decision to align with the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) was made following consultations with party MLAs and workers, particularly in light of the recent announcement of Bharat Ratna for his grandfather, Chaudhary Charan Singh.

In response to inquiries regarding potential discontent among RLD members over the party’s move towards the NDA, Singh asserted that such reports were unfounded, suggesting that those making such claims had not engaged directly with the party’s MLAs. Singh emphasized that the decision was made after extensive deliberation and was necessitated by circumstances rather than a preconceived plan.

Although neither Singh nor the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have made a formal announcement regarding the alliance, indications from both sides strongly suggest an alignment shift since February 9, coinciding with the announcement of the Bharat Ratna for Charan Singh.

Expressing joy over the Bharat Ratna recognition for his grandfather, Singh highlighted its significance beyond familial or party interests, emphasizing its broader implications for farmers, youth, and the disadvantaged sections of society.

When pressed on the timing of the formal alliance announcement with the BJP, Singh evaded a direct response, stating that the current occasion, marking his father Ajit Singh’s birth anniversary, was deserving of celebration.

Singh’s social media post, “Dil Jeet Liya (You have won our hearts),” following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of the Bharat Ratna for Charan Singh, further solidified indications of the alliance shift. Singh dismissed criticisms suggesting the move was part of a political deal, asserting that such remarks diminish the legacy of the former prime minister.
