Chandigarh, November 6, 2025 : Firm on his promise to make Punjab a ‘Rangla Punjab’ (prosperous Punjab), Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has given a decisive turn to the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign against drug addiction and corruption in the state. The government’s action is sending a clear message that political power will no longer be able to save those involved in the drug trade.

During a massive road show in Tarn Taran, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann made sharp allegations against the previous Akali and Congress governments. He mocked Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal’s claim that during their rule, no one had heard the word ‘Chitta’ (drugs).

The Chief Minister alleged that “she is right, because people didn’t know the name ‘Chitta’ back then. In that era, it was called ‘Majithia Puri and Majithia Tikka’.” He said that these parties together looted Punjab, spread drugs, and destroyed the future of the youth. The Chief Minister expressed his resolve that those responsible for this threat should not try to give speeches about saving Punjab now, but should be ready for the strictest punishment.

The government has sent a clear message through action taken against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia that no politically strong or influential person is above the law.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Bikram Singh Majithia on charges of laundering ‘drug money’ worth over ₹540 crores. Additionally, a case of assets beyond income has been registered against him, which is allegedly 1200% more than his declared income and is connected to a ₹700 crore drug network. On the recommendation of the Punjab Cabinet, the Governor has also granted permission to prosecute in this case. Chief Minister Mann clearly stated, “I will show no mercy to anyone in drug matters. I am accountable to Punjabis and am indebted to them.”

This action proves that it is ‘AAP’ versus everyone else, and those who destroyed the future of youth will not be spared. The ‘AAP’ government is doing what others only promised. The Punjab government is committed: the dream of ‘Rangla Punjab’ will now become reality.
