Champai Soren Is new Jharkhand CM, To Take Oath Today

Champai Soren, a veteran leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, will take the oath of office as Jharkhand’s next chief minister. The Governor extended an invitation to the 67-year-old to take an oath, over 24 hours after his predecessor Hemant Soren was taken into custody in connection with a suspected money laundering case.
“The state’s government is absent for eighteen hours. There is a state of uncertainty. He wrote to the governor, “As the head of the constitution, we expect you will soon take steps for the formation of a popular government.”

Fearing an Opposition BJP Operation Lotus, the ruling alliance moved its MLAs due to the Governor’s decision being delayed and the narrow margin in numbers.

However, the weather was unkind. The plane, which was scheduled to depart for Telangana, which is ruled by Congress, was unable to take off, so the MLAs were brought to a government guest house in the city late at night.

Champai Soren received a call from the Governor shortly after that.

With 47 MLAs in the 81-member house, the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance, which rules Jharkhand, has a majority of 41. Champai Soren currently has 43 MLAs in support of him.

The Enforcement Directorate had arrested former CM Hemant Soren on Wednesday night following his meeting with the Governor and his resignation as CM. He is allegedly involved in a ₹ 600 crore land scam and the money laundering associated with it, according to the Enforcement Directorate.
