Canada Alleges India’s Involvement with Lawrence Bishnoi Gang to Target Pro-Khalistan Supporters

In an escalating diplomatic dispute, Canada has accused India of using the Lawrence Bishnoi gang to target pro-Khalistani individuals on its soil, but has once again failed to provide supporting evidence. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) made the allegations in a late-night press conference, claiming that Indian government agents have been involved in “serious criminal activity” within Canada.

The RCMP’s claims follow Canada’s previous accusations linking Indian diplomats to the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani activist who was killed in Surrey, Canada, last year. India has consistently denied any involvement, dismissing the accusations as “absurd and baseless.”

RCMP Assistant Commissioner Brigitte Gauvin stated that organized crime elements, particularly the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, are allegedly working with Indian government agents to collect information and target members of the South Asian community. “We believe that the group is connected to agents of the Government of India,” Gauvin said, adding that pro-Khalistani figures were a specific target.

Despite these claims, Canada has not presented any evidence to substantiate its accusations. The ongoing investigation into Nijjar’s death has intensified tensions between the two nations, with both countries expelling diplomats in a tit-for-tat move. Canada recently expelled six Indian diplomats, prompting India to recall its envoy and expel six Canadian diplomats in response.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed the media, expressing concern over India’s alleged involvement in threatening public safety on Canadian soil. Trudeau also accused India of refusing to cooperate with the investigation into Nijjar’s killing.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs responded with a sharp rebuke, criticizing Canada for failing to provide any evidence despite repeated requests. India has long accused Canada of harboring separatist elements and engaging in “vote-bank politics” rather than addressing the activities of pro-Khalistani groups within its borders.

The diplomatic standoff shows no signs of abating, with both countries standing firm in their positions. The situation continues to strain relations between New Delhi and Ottawa as international observers watch closely for any developments.
