Campaigning ends for 7th and final phase of 2024 Lok Sabha election

Thursday night marked the conclusion of the intense campaigning for the seventh and final round of the Lok Sabha elections, which will be held on June 1 for 57 seats across seven states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

Elections are planned to be held in thirteen Punjab seats, four Himachal Pradesh seats, thirteen Uttar Pradesh constituencies, nine West Bengal seats, eight Bihar seats, six Odisha seats, and three Jharkhand seats in addition to Chandigarh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is running for office in Varanasi for a third term in a row.

In 28 states and Union territories, 486 seats have already had their votes counted. The turnout in the first six phases was 66.14 per cent, 66.71, 65.68, 69.16, 62.2 and 63.36 per cent respectively. Voter tallying will commence on June 4. The campaigning saw BJP leaders led by Modi accusing the Congress and the INDIA alliance of being corrupt, anti-Hindu and engaging in loot, appeasement and dynastic politics.

The Opposition parties have been claiming that the BJP is anti-farmer, anti-youth and will change and scrap the Constitution if they win the elections.
