Breaking Barriers: Andhra Pradesh Man Marries Transgender Woman Despite Societal Resistance

In a remarkable display of courage and love, Nandu, a resident of Vissannapet in Andhra Pradesh’s NTR district, has broken societal norms by marrying Nakshatra, a transgender woman from Enkur. Their unconventional love story, which blossomed over three years, culminated in a traditional wedding ceremony at the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple in Garlavoddu of Enkur Mandal on Sunday.

The couple first connected through Instagram, and despite facing numerous rejections from both their families and communities, they persevered with the support of the state’s transgender association. In the presence of association representatives from various districts, Nandu and Nakshatra exchanged vows, receiving heartfelt blessings from the transgender community.

Nandu, speaking about their journey, expressed, “We both personally met and took the decision on marriage, but my family members rejected our proposal. I met with members of the transgender association, and the marriage happened without any hurdles.”

Nakshatra, who had faced social boycott and filed complaints upon arriving in Enkur in 2015, shared her struggles. “I suffered from social boycott. I requested with folded hands with the police and community people, and finally, I got a rented house.” She added that her conduct and nature helped her integrate into society, transforming her initial critics into supporters.

Reflecting on their relationship, Nakshatra disclosed, “I too have suffered a heartbreak, but now I trust Nandu. He equally distributes money between his parents and me.” Looking ahead, the couple expressed their desire to adopt a child in the future and build their home in the same supportive colony.
