A 14-year-old Dalit girl was reportedly kidnapped from her home in Muzaffarpur district, Bihar, and her body was later discovered in a pond with numerous injuries, according to police on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in a village within the Paru police station area. Muzaffarpur Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar confirmed the details, noting that the girl’s family reported her abduction from their house on the night of August 11. Her body was found the next day in a nearby pond.
A case has been filed against six individuals, with one named in the complaint. The named suspect is from the same village and allegedly had a romantic interest in the girl, which may have been a motive. Police are actively searching for this suspect.
Media reports have suggested that the girl may have been raped before her murder. However, the SSP clarified that while the vaginal swab has been sent for testing, initial post-mortem and inquest findings do not indicate injuries to her private parts. The injuries observed were on her head, neck, and arms, with the fatal blows reportedly inflicted on her head and neck. Her legs were found tied, and a trowel, likely used by the attackers, was discovered near the pond.
The SSP mentioned that the police were not informed when the girl was abducted and that the family had not filed a complaint or reported threats from the named accused at that time.
Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav criticized the state government, accusing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of failing to address the increasing incidents of violence and crime in the state. Yadav, a former Deputy Chief Minister, claimed that the incident reflects a broader failure in law enforcement and governance.
