BJP Veteran Nand Kishore Yadav Elected Unopposed as Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker

In a significant development in Bihar’s political landscape, veteran BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Thursday. This appointment comes following the removal of his predecessor, Awadh Bihari Choudhary of the RJD, in a no-confidence motion.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav jointly escorted the new Speaker to the Chair. Kumar praised Yadav’s extensive experience in politics, expressing confidence in his ability to handle the responsibilities of the Speaker’s office impartially.

Tejashwi Yadav, while congratulating the new Speaker, voiced hope that Yadav would uphold the principles of impartiality and give due consideration to the opposition’s viewpoints. This sentiment was echoed by Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, who hailed Yadav’s leadership qualities and expressed gratitude to the central leadership for his selection.

Nand Kishore Yadav, a seven-time MLA from the Patna Sahib assembly constituency, brings with him a wealth of experience, having served in various capacities within the state government over the years. His political journey, which began in 1978, reflects a deep-rooted commitment to public service and governance.

Yadav’s selection for the Speaker’s post is seen as a strategic move by the BJP to maintain a delicate balance between different caste groups, including the Extremely Backward Class (EBC), Other Backward Class (OBC), and upper caste communities, within the ruling dispensation.
