Bengaluru Techie Suicide Case: Wife Denies Allegations of Harassment, Claims Victim Harassed Her

In a significant development in the Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash suicide case, the deceased’s estranged wife, Nikita Singhania, has denied all allegations of harassment made by her late husband. Nikita, who was recently arrested after several days on the run, claimed during police interrogation that it was Atul who had subjected her to harassment, not the other way around.

Atul Subhash, a 34-year-old software engineer from Bihar’s Samastipur, was found dead in his Bengaluru flat on Monday. A 24-page suicide note was discovered at the scene, with the phrase “Justice is due” inscribed at the beginning of each page. Additionally, a 90-minute video featuring Atul went viral on social media, in which he detailed his domestic troubles and accused his in-laws of harassment and financial demands.

Nikita Singhania, aged 29, was arrested in Gurugram, while her mother, Nisha Singhania, and younger brother, Anurag Singhania (27), were taken into custody from Prayagraj. All three were brought to Bengaluru, where a local court remanded them to 14-day judicial custody. Meanwhile, Nikita’s uncle, Sushil Singhania, was granted anticipatory bail by the Allahabad High Court.

During questioning, Nikita denied harassing her husband and countered the allegations, asserting that she had been living separately from Atul for almost three years. She argued that if she had indeed harassed him for money, she would not have chosen to stay away for such an extended period.

Atul, however, painted a different picture in his suicide note and video. He alleged that Nikita and her family had repeatedly demanded money, including a sum of Rs 3 crore as part of a divorce settlement. Atul claimed the harassment escalated after he refused to meet their financial demands. He also accused his wife’s family of filing eight false police complaints against him and cited biases in family court proceedings as part of his struggles.

Atul Subhash married Nikita Singhania in 2019 after meeting her on a matchmaking website. According to Atul’s allegations, Nikita and her family frequently pressured him to provide large sums of money for business ventures. When he declined, tensions in their marriage intensified, ultimately leading Nikita to leave their home in 2021, taking their son with her.

In his video and note, Atul further claimed that Nikita filed multiple cases against him and his family in 2022. The cases included accusations of cruelty, dowry harassment, and even murder. Atul alleged that these false complaints caused him immense emotional and financial distress.

Atul’s family expressed their disappointment with the legal system, asserting that laws in the country overwhelmingly favor women while leaving men vulnerable to misuse. They demanded a thorough investigation and justice for Atul.

Atul’s suicide has sparked widespread debate on social media about the misuse of laws intended to protect women. Many users questioned the lack of mechanisms to prevent false accusations and called for reforms to ensure a balanced and fair legal process for all.

The Bengaluru police continue their investigation into the case, as public interest remains high amid growing discussions surrounding the complexities of marital disputes and the misuse of legal provisions.
