Angelina Jolie Alleges Brad Pitt’s History of Abuse in Dispute Over French Winery

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s long-standing legal battle over their French winery, Miraval, has taken a contentious turn with new allegations surfacing. In a recent filing obtained by CNN, Jolie claims a history of physical abuse by Pitt, dating back before their high-profile plane incident in 2016.

According to the documents filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, Jolie attempted to sell her stake in Miraval to Pitt, but negotiations collapsed over Pitt’s insistence on a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that would silence Jolie from speaking about his alleged abuse, tying it to Miraval’s business reputation.

The latest development stems from Pitt’s 2022 lawsuit, alleging that Jolie’s sale of her stake in the winery was retaliatory following a custody ruling. Jolie, in her filing, refutes this, stating that Pitt’s concerns about his own misconduct led him to sabotage the deal by demanding an expansive NDA.

Jolie claims she agreed to sign an NDA limited to not disparaging Miraval’s wine business, but Pitt insisted on a broader agreement. Pitt’s representatives have not yet commented on these allegations.

Paul Murphy, Jolie’s attorney, asserts that Pitt’s refusal to purchase her stake and subsequent lawsuit raise questions about what he sought to conceal with the NDA, namely his alleged abuse. Jolie chose not to press charges after the 2016 incident, hoping Pitt would take responsibility and aid the family’s recovery from the trauma.

The legal saga adds emotional and financial strain on Jolie and their family, who yearn for healing and relief from further pain. Despite being declared legally single in 2019 and establishing a joint custody arrangement in 2021, the Miraval dispute persists.

Jolie’s decision to sell her half of Miraval to Tenute del Mondo in 2021 further complicates the matter. The estate and winery, purchased by the couple in 2008, remain at the center of the ongoing legal proceedings.
