Air India Express Terminates Contracts of Senior Cabin Crew Over Disrupted Operations

In a recent development, Air India Express has terminated the contracts of several senior cabin crew members following disruptions in its flight operations. The airline took this drastic step after a significant number of crew members reported sick just before their scheduled duties, causing a cascade of flight cancellations.

The airline cited the actions of the concerned employees as “pre-meditated and concerted abstention from work without any justifiable reason.” According to reports, at least 25 senior crew members have received termination notices, with the possibility of the number rising to as many as 30.

In a letter of termination sent to one of its employees, Air India Express emphasized the severe consequences of the crew members’ actions, stating that their behavior resulted in the cancellation of a large number of flights, disrupting the airline’s schedule and inconveniencing passengers.

CEO Aloke Singh addressed the situation, expressing concern over the impact of the crew members’ actions on the airline’s operations. Singh announced that the airline would be reducing flights over the next few days due to the disruptions caused by crew members reporting sick at the last minute.

The Civil Aviation Ministry has taken note of the situation and requested a report on the flight cancellations. It has also urged the airline to ensure facilities for passengers in accordance with the norms laid down by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The ministry emphasized the need for prompt resolution of the issue.

Air India Express, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Air India, has assured stakeholders of open communication channels and invited dialogue to address concerns regarding the disruptions in flight operations.
