An air hostess was detained for allegedly hiding almost one kilogram of gold in her rectum in order to smuggle it from Muscat to Kannur. Officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI – Kannur) detained Surabhi Khatun, a member of the cabin crew who was born in Kolkata and arrived from Muscat at Kannur International Airport on May 28. Their actions were taken in response to specific information provided by DRI Cochin.
After interrogation and completing the necessary formalities, she was produced before the jurisdictional magistrate and remanded to 14 days to women’s prison in Kannur, the source told news agency PTI.

According to the source, this is the first instance in India of an airline crew member being arrested for smuggling gold by hiding it in the rectum.
