Ahead of the upcoming general elections of 2024, boxer Vijender Singh Singh joined the BJP on Wednesday, dealing a serious blow to the Congress party.
He joined the saffron party in the presence of BJP leaders Vinod Tawde, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Rajiv Babbar at the party’s headquarters in the capital. While with the Congress, the Olympian medallist had fought the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from South Delhi. However, he lost to BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri.
“I have joined the BJP to serve the people and the nation,” he declared. Increasingly, I want to assist people. Boxer Vijender Singh shared a post by Congressman Rahul Gandhi the day before he became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in which he accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of trying to alter the constitution by using “match-fixing” to win the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Singh said, “I slept [after retweeting] and when I woke up, I realized that I was doing something wrong and was on the wrong platform,” Vijender said in an interview regarding his tweet on X. I came to the realisation that I would be better off joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. This is the reason I chose to attend the party.”
