AAP MP Swati Maliwal Refuses to Resign from Rajya Sabha Seat Amid Assault Controversy

Amidst the escalating controversy surrounding the alleged assault of AAP MP Swati Maliwal at the Chief Minister’s residence, the former Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) chief has made a resolute declaration that she will not relinquish her Rajya Sabha seat.

In an exclusive interview with ANI, Maliwal, who claims to have been attacked and assaulted by Arvind Kejriwal’s close aide Bibhav Kumar at the CM’s house, clarified her stance regarding her political position. She stated that she would have willingly resigned from her Rajya Sabha position if the party had approached her with a sincere request. However, she emphasized that she would not succumb to any external pressure demanding her resignation.

“If they needed my Rajya Sabha seat, they would have asked for it. I would have readily sacrificed it. The MP seat is inconsequential compared to the larger cause. Throughout my career, I have never pursued positions for personal gain,” Maliwal asserted, highlighting her commitment to public service since 2006.

Referring to the alleged assault incident, a Delhi court has granted a five-day custodial interrogation of Kejriwal’s aide, Bibhav Kumar, who was apprehended from the CM’s residence. The court deemed the police remand as necessary for the investigation.

The assault case revolves around allegations that Kumar, identified as Kejriwal’s assistant, physically assaulted AAP MP Swati Maliwal at the Chief Minister’s residence on May 13. Kumar, who had allegedly formatted his phone before his arrest, was recently taken to Mumbai for data recovery, raising suspicions of data transfer prior to formatting.

Arvind Kejriwal, in an interview with PTI, stressed the importance of a fair investigation into the Maliwal assault case, acknowledging the existence of conflicting narratives. He also disclaimed any aspirations for the prime ministerial position, emphasizing his commitment to safeguarding democracy from what he perceives as prevailing “dictatorship.”

In response, Maliwal quipped that irony had witnessed countless deaths, remarking on Kejriwal’s call for a fair investigation into the matter.
