More than five months after the BJP’s hat-trick victory, the party has experienced another ‘saffron surge’ in Haryana, forming a “triple-engine government” following the results of the municipal elections on Wednesday.
The BJP secured overwhelming victories in nine out of 10 municipal corporation elections, defeating its traditional rival, Congress. The only setback came in the mayoral election in Manesar MC, where BJP candidate Sunder Lal lost to Inderjeet Yadav, a candidate with close ties to Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh.
In a major blow to former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on his home turf of Rohtak, BJP’s Ramavtar Balmiki triumphed in the mayoral election, defeating Congress’ Suraj Mal Kiloi. The BJP continued its winning streak in Faridabad, where Praveen Joshi beat Congress’ Lata Rani. In Gurugram, BJP’s Raj Rani Malhotra defeated Congress’ Seema Pahuja.
In the two mayoral bypolls, BJP’s Rajiv Jain won in Sonepat, defeating Congress’ Kamal Dewan, while Shalaija Sachdeva of the BJP triumphed over Congress’ Amisha Chawla in Ambala. Additionally, BJP’s Praveen Popli emerged victorious in Hisar, defeating Congress’ Krishan Singla.
In Panipat, BJP’s Komal Saini beat Congress’ Savita Garg to become the new Mayor, and in Yamunanagar, BJP’s Suman Bahmani triumphed over Congress’ Kirna Devi.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini credited the party’s victory to the people’s endorsement of the BJP government’s policies and achievements. He emphasized that the “triple-engine government” — referring to the BJP’s control at the Centre, state, and in the civic bodies — will accelerate development in the state to achieve the goal of a “developed Haryana, developed India.”
Haryana BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli, expressing gratitude to the voters, stated that the party’s vision of forming a triple-engine government in the state has now been realized.
