Bengaluru To be Warmer Than Delhi This Summer

Bengaluru, traditionally known for its mild and pleasant weather throughout the year, is now expected to surpass the National Capital Region (NCR) in temperature, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The city is set to experience hotter days in the weeks ahead.

From last year to this year, Bengaluru’s temperature has risen by 2.7°C. Meanwhile, Delhi’s temperature recently reached 29°C, making Bengaluru the warmer of the two cities. On February 17, 2025, Bengaluru recorded its hottest day so far, with temperatures soaring to 35.9°C, while Delhi’s temperature stood at 27°C, contradicting Bengaluru’s longstanding reputation for having the best weather in India.

While daytime temperatures are expected to remain high, evenings in Bengaluru will stay cooler, with minimum temperatures around 17°C. However, the city is still predicted to be slightly warmer than Delhi.

Bengaluru typically experiences the onset of summer in the first week of March, but the IMD has forecasted an early arrival this year, possibly as early as mid-February. This shift is attributed to the lack of northern winds, which usually help to maintain cooler temperatures, as well as the ongoing La Niña phenomenon, which may be influencing the city’s weather patterns. Unlike Delhi, which is seeing temperatures within the normal range for mid-February, Bengaluru is experiencing unusual weather, with regions like Raichur and Kalaburgi—both known for their extreme heat—also experiencing higher-than-average temperatures.

For the past two years, Bengaluru has consistently surpassed Delhi’s temperature during this period. Historically, February temperatures in Bengaluru have ranged from 15°C to 30°C, while Delhi typically experiences temperatures between 12°C and 16°C during the same month. This ongoing trend of elevated temperatures highlights the city’s shift towards warmer conditions, with forecasts predicting a continuation of this pattern in the coming days. It seems that Bengaluru’s early transition into summer is becoming an emerging climatic norm.
