On the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended heartfelt tributes, hailing him as the “architect of India’s transition into the 21st century,” which laid the foundation for the country’s economic rise. Modi expressed his thoughts on Vajpayee’s immense contribution to the nation in an article published across several newspapers on Wednesday.
In his tribute, Modi recalled Vajpayee’s remarkable career, noting that despite spending much of his long parliamentary tenure in the opposition, he never held any bitterness, even when the Congress resorted to calling him a “traitor.”
“He stands tall as a statesman, inspiring countless individuals,” Modi wrote, reflecting on Vajpayee’s enduring legacy.
Modi also shared personal memories of his interactions with the former prime minister, emphasizing that it was a privilege for many BJP members, including himself, to learn from and engage with Vajpayee. He highlighted how Vajpayee consistently chose ideology over power, even when the two were in conflict.
“He was able to convince the nation that an alternative vision, distinct from the Congress, was not only possible but could deliver results,” Modi said. He called on the people to rededicate themselves to realizing Vajpayee’s ideals and fulfilling his vision for India.
