‘Those Rejected Disrupt Parliament’: PM Modi Targets Opposition Ahead of Winter Session

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today accused the Opposition of attempting to control Parliament through persistent disruptions and hooliganism. Speaking to the media ahead of the Winter Session’s commencement, the Prime Minister directed sharp remarks at the Congress, stating that parties repeatedly rejected by voters were obstructing meaningful discussions in the House.

“Some people who have been rejected by the public repeatedly are constantly trying to control Parliament through hooliganism by a handful of individuals,” PM Modi said. “They neither respect democracy nor understand the aspirations of the people. Their lack of responsibility is evident in their actions,” he added.

Highlighting the impact on new parliamentarians, Modi lamented that disruptive tactics deny opportunities for constructive debate. “New MPs from all parties bring fresh ideas and energy, but some people usurp their rights, preventing them from voicing their opinions,” he said.

The Prime Minister expressed hope for a productive session, emphasizing the need for healthy and meaningful discussions that align with India’s democratic spirit. “The voters of India are deeply committed to democracy and the Constitution. We, in Parliament, must live up to their expectations and set an example for future generations,” he remarked.

Calling for unity among lawmakers, Modi stressed the importance of using parliamentary time wisely to enhance India’s global reputation. “The world is looking at India with hope. Our conduct and use of Parliament’s time should strengthen the respect India has earned internationally,” he stated.

The Winter Session, which will continue until December 20, will feature discussions on significant legislative matters, including amendments to the Waqf Act, the Disaster Management Act, and the Banking Laws, among others. Bills addressing railways, oilfield regulations, and coastal shipping are also on the agenda.

Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju assured that the government is “ready to discuss any topic” and called for a peaceful and productive session during an all-party meeting held on Sunday.

This session coincides with the celebration of the 75th year of India’s Constitution, with special events planned in the Samvidhan Sadan on Tuesday to commemorate the milestone.

The government has listed several bills for introduction, consideration, and passage, including the Boilers Bill, Rashtriya Sahkari Vishwavidyalaya Bill, and Merchant Shipping Bill, signaling a busy legislative calendar.
