In a brief but intense encounter, two foreign terrorists were killed by security forces on Saturday in the Halkan Gali area of Kachwan in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir. According to official sources, the terrorists were being closely monitored, and the encounter broke out as security personnel moved in to engage them. Authorities suspect the presence of additional militants in the area, with efforts underway to locate and neutralize them.
The incident took place approximately 57 kilometers from Srinagar, the region’s summer capital, where a separate gunfight was underway in the Khanyar area. Following intelligence on the presence of terrorists in Khanyar, a cordon-and-search operation escalated into a gun battle after the militants opened fire on security personnel. “Police and security forces are on the job,” Kashmir Zone Police confirmed via Twitter, as the exchange of fire continued.
Simultaneously, in one of the largest counter-terrorism operations in recent memory, security forces conducted raids across more than 30 locations in Jammu. The ongoing operations, which span the districts of Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, and Rajouri, represent a substantial push to eliminate militant threats across the region.
This wave of operations comes on the heels of escalating violence, including an incident on November 1, when two migrant laborers from Uttar Pradesh were shot by terrorists in Budgam district. Just days earlier, on October 29, security forces successfully eliminated two terrorists in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir. According to Major General Sameer Srivastava, General Officer Commanding of the 10 Infantry Division, the terrorists had entered the area with intentions to target a security convoy. “We were ready, with technology like UAVs and AI-assisted surveillance enabling us to intercept their plans swiftly,” he said.
As Jammu and Kashmir continues to face a heightened security situation, these coordinated operations underscore the resolve of security forces to secure the region from militant activities.
