Massive protests broke out at the SR Gudlavalleru Engineering College in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district on Thursday after a hidden camera was discovered inside a washroom in the girls’ hostel. The incident has ignited outrage among students, prompting a demand for justice and better security measures on campus.
Scores of female students took to the streets, chanting “We want justice” and urging college authorities to take swift and stringent action against those responsible. The discovery has raised serious concerns about the safety and privacy of female students residing in the hostel.
The Andhra Pradesh state police have identified the primary suspect in the case as Vijay, a student of the same college. Investigations revealed that Vijay’s laptop contained nearly 300 obscene videos, which the police believe he may have sold to other students. The laptop has been seized as evidence, and the investigation is ongoing.
As of now, there is no official confirmation regarding Vijay’s arrest, and students continue to press for accountability and assurance of their safety on campus.
This incident comes amid a wave of protests across India over the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The two incidents have amplified public outcry over the safety and protection of women, especially within educational institutions.
The college administration has yet to release an official statement addressing the hidden camera incident, while authorities have promised to tighten security measures and ensure justice for the victims.
