Delhi is set to experience heavy rain over the next three days starting Tuesday, August 6, following light showers in some parts of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow’ alert, predicting that the rainfall may gradually reduce after this period. According to the IMD, Delhi is likely to receive scattered rainfall at a few locations on Tuesday, with fairly widespread rainfall expected across the city on Wednesday and Thursday.

The minimum temperature in the city is anticipated to be around 27 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature could reach 34 degrees Celsius, as per the IMD.

Mahesh Palawat, vice president at Skymet, a private weather forecasting service, noted that a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan is moving closer to Delhi, thereby increasing the likelihood of heavy rainfall.

On Monday, parts of the national capital experienced scattered and light rainfall, accompanied by strong surface winds of 30-40 kmph throughout the day. The Safdarjung weather station recorded 4.5mm of rainfall between 8:30 am on Sunday and Monday, while the Palam weather station recorded 1.5mm of rainfall until 8:30 am, with “trace” rainfall recorded in the subsequent nine hours, according to the IMD.

Weather officials reported that Delhi has recorded 114.1mm of rainfall in August so far, compared to the monthly average of 233.1mm.

Additionally, the IMD has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy rain at isolated places over West Rajasthan on Tuesday. The bulletin also mentioned heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over East Rajasthan and heavy rain at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and East Uttar Pradesh.

Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Punjab, East Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, the IMD added.
