According to the UK news portal The Courier, two Indian students at Dundee University in Scotland died in an accident at a Scottish waterfall.
On Wednesday, April 17, the victims—Jitendranath ‘Jitu’ Karuturi, 26, and Chanhakya Bolisetti, 22,—were hiking with a friend close to Blair Atholl’s picturesque Linn of Tummel waterfall.
They reportedly fell into the water while attempting to take a photo.
At Dundee University, Jitu and Chanhakya were both pursuing master’s degrees in data science and engineering. The two Indian friends fell into the water while hiking with another friend.
“We received a report of two men, aged 22 and 26, in the water at the Linn of Tummel waterfall near Blair Atholl,” a Police Scotland spokesman said at around 7 p.m. on Wednesday. After local searches and the arrival of emergency services, the bodies of two men were found in the water. There doesn’t seem to be anything suspicious going on with these deaths, but investigations are still underway to determine the whole story. The Daily Record stated that a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.
Jitu had previously worked at the Taza Indian Buffet in Dundee and studied in the US. Vaseem Salimi, his manager, characterized him as composed, trustworthy, and diligent. “Everyone is devastated,” he said. Jitu had a lot of popularity with everyone.
In 2022, Chanhakya received his degree from JNTUH College of Engineering Hyderabad.
A representative for Dundee University told the Courier, “This has been a tragic accident which has shocked us all, and our thoughts are with the families and friends of the students.”
