On Monday, two minor sisters were swept away by the strong current of the Ganga river in Haripur Kalan, Dehradun, while attempting to rescue their younger brother from drowning. The incident occurred at the Geeta Kutir Ghat around 11:30 am, where a woman was bathing with five children from two families.
According to officials, nine-year-old Suraj began drifting in the strong current, prompting his sisters—15-year-old Sakshi and 13-year-old Vaishnavi—to jump into the river to save him. Although the sisters managed to push Suraj towards the riverbank, they were themselves carried away by the powerful current.
The police promptly alerted the State Disaster Response Force, which has since launched a search operation in the river. As of now, both sisters remain missing.
