19 die in Bihar due to extreme heatwave, two were poll workers

Bihar is currently experiencing an extreme heatwave with temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius, resulting in the deaths of 19 people.

Twelve people have died in Bihar’s Aurangabad as a result of the heatwave; on Thursday, four people—among them a worker assigned to election duty—died in Kaimur district; and three people have died in Bihar’s Arrah in Bhojpur district.

About 40 patients suffering from heat stroke visited the Mohania sub-divisional hospital in Kaimur on Thursday, according to Dr. Sahil Raj, a physician there.

“Among them, heat stroke claimed the lives of two people, including poll workers. Thirty to forty patients, including members of the police force, are receiving treatment. Following treatment, many have been sent home,” he stated.

Dr. Raj reported that one of his coworkers informed him that teacher Shahnawaz Khan had left for home following his election duty. Khan, he said, continued to sleep at home until his death.

According to Mohania police station ASI Satish Kumar Ravi, four bodies have been sent for post-mortems. These individuals had perished in various locations from heat stroke.

Meanwhile, three people have died in Bihar’s Arrah in Bhojpur district after suffering from extreme heatwave.

In Bihar’s Aurangabad, the death toll due to heatwave has reached 12, with more than 20 patients admitted to different hospitals across the district, officials from the Aurangabad Health Department said.

“Three people have been reported dead. One of them is a home guard who was brought to the hospital but could not be saved. In addition, there was a presiding officer in Jagdishpur who was on duty. He was stabilised and then referred, but died in the hospital. Another person, Rajesh Ram, collapsed,” Bhojpur District Magistrate Mahendra Kumar said.
