An 18-year-old girl from Kerala, identified as Sreenanda, tragically passed away due to complications from anorexia after surviving on only water for months. According to officials, she had been following an extreme weight-loss diet based on an online portal, which led to a severe eating disorder.
Sreenanda had been struggling with anorexia for nearly five to six months, during which she refrained from eating, often deceiving her family about her food intake. Around five months ago, she was taken to a hospital, where doctors advised her to eat properly and undergo psychiatric consultation. However, she continued to avoid food and survived primarily on hot water.
As her condition worsened, her blood sugar levels plummeted, and she developed breathing difficulties two weeks ago. She was admitted to Thalassery Co-operative Hospital, where Dr. Nagesh Manohar Prabhu, a consultant physician, stated that she arrived in a severely weakened state, weighing only 24 kg and already bedridden.
Despite being placed in the ICU with ventilator support, her condition did not improve. She had dangerously low sugar, sodium, and blood pressure levels. Unfortunately, after days of intensive care, she succumbed to the disease.
