In a shocking case of familial violence, an 86-year-old industrialist was allegedly stabbed to death by his 28-year-old grandson over a property dispute, police said. The incident occurred on February 6 at the victim’s residence in Somajiguda.
The deceased, Velamati Chandrasekhara Janardhana Rao, was the chairman of Veljan Group, an established industrial solutions company. The accused, K Kirti Teja, reportedly confronted his grandfather over asset distribution, leading to a heated argument that escalated into a fatal attack.
According to police reports, Teja allegedly stabbed Rao multiple times—reports suggest up to 70 times—causing his immediate death. When his mother attempted to intervene, she too was attacked and sustained injuries. She has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Teja and his mother, who reside in another part of Hyderabad, had visited Rao’s residence last week. The altercation broke out when Teja accused his grandfather of being indifferent toward him since childhood and refusing to allocate a share of the family assets to him. The police cited these details as part of their preliminary investigation.
Authorities have confirmed that the exact number of stab wounds will be determined following the post-mortem examination. Teja, who had recently returned to Hyderabad after completing his master’s degree in the United States, has been arrested, and an investigation is underway.
Veljan Group, founded in 1965, specializes in providing industrial solutions across various sectors, including shipbuilding, energy, and mobile applications, according to its official website.
Police are continuing their inquiry into the incident to ascertain further details surrounding the dispute and the events leading to the fatal attack.
