A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against four immigration agents in Haryana’s Karnal under the Immigration Act, following complaints by three individuals who were recently deported from the United States.
Authorities have yet to disclose the identities of both the complainants and the accused. The case highlights growing concerns over illegal migration and fraudulent immigration practices.
The development comes amid a broader discussion on deportations of Indian nationals from the United States. On Thursday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed the issue in the Rajya Sabha, stating that deportation is not a new phenomenon and has been an ongoing process for several years.
Jaishankar assured that the Indian government is engaging with U.S. authorities to ensure that deported individuals are not mistreated. His statement followed heightened opposition criticism over the alleged ill-treatment of 104 Indian immigrants deported from the U.S. and flown to Amritsar on Wednesday aboard a U.S. military plane. Several deportees reported being shackled during transit.
The minister emphasized the need to crack down on illegal migration while also working to ease visa processes for legitimate travelers. He further asserted that it is the responsibility of every country to repatriate its nationals found living illegally abroad, subject to clear verification of their nationality.
The investigation into the Karnal case is ongoing, with officials expected to probe the alleged role of the accused agents in facilitating illegal migration.
