Chennai Sees Heavy Downpour As Cyclone Fengal Landfall Approaches

Cyclone Fengal continues to intensify as it moves closer to the southeastern coast of India, with Chennai experiencing heavy rain and gusty winds. The cyclone, which formed in the Bay of Bengal, is expected to make landfall tomorrow, likely between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram, according to meteorological forecasts.

As the storm approaches, the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are on high alert. Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu, has already seen moderate to heavy rainfall since this morning, and the weather is expected to worsen throughout the day. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible flooding in low-lying areas.

Authorities have taken precautionary measures, including evacuating people from vulnerable areas and closing schools and colleges in affected zones. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed to assist with relief efforts, and emergency services are on standby.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea as the cyclone’s intensity is likely to increase. The wind speeds near the cyclone’s center could reach up to 110 km/h, with gusts exceeding this speed, posing risks to infrastructure and agriculture in the region.

The IMD has predicted that landfall will occur sometime tomorrow, and the cyclone will bring heavy rainfall and winds to parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The government has also urged citizens to stay indoors and follow the guidance of local authorities.

As Cyclone Fengal moves closer, residents are being urged to stay alert for further updates and ensure their safety during the storm’s impact.
