Tamil film actor ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay officially launched his political party, named ‘Thamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam,’ as he submitted the registration application to the Election Commission on Friday. The party, derived from his registered fan group ‘Vijay Makkal Iyakkam,’ aims to contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections while refraining from participation in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In a statement released on social media platform X, Vijay expressed his commitment to bringing about a positive political change in Tamil Nadu. He emphasized the need for a political platform to address the challenges faced by the state and highlighted the importance of selfless, truthful politics without caste or religious differences.

The actor acknowledged the support and love he received from the people of Tamil Nadu, stating, “After my father and mother, the Tamil people are the ones who have given me everything, including my name, fame, and money. And I have been waiting to give it back to them for a long time.”

The party’s objectives include contesting and winning the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections to fulfill the aspirations of the people. While Vijay’s fan base extends beyond Tamil Nadu, particularly in Kerala and Karnataka, the party aims to focus on state-level politics.

Vijay clarified that the party would not participate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and would not extend support to any other political party. The unveiling of the party’s symbol, flag, ideologies, policies, and interaction with the public will be addressed after the 2024 general elections.

Known for his impactful roles in Tamil cinema, Vijay has starred in popular films such as ‘Theri,’ ‘Master,’ ‘Bigil,’ ‘Beast,’ ‘Puli,’ ‘Thuppakki,’ ‘Mersal,’ and ‘Kaththi.’ His latest project is the action film ‘Leo,’ in which he co-stars with Sanjay Dutt, and he is set to appear in the upcoming film ‘The Greatest of All Time.’
