The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out a series of raids across Tamil Nadu on Friday, targeting suspects involved in an arms seizure case inspired by the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The operation, conducted under the RC-33/2022/NIA/DLI (Omalur PS Arms Case), saw NIA teams raiding premises in Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Sivaganga, and Tenkasi.
The locations searched included the residence of NTK functionary and YouTuber Saatai Duraimurugan, along with others linked to the case. The NIA’s extensive searches resulted in the confiscation of key evidence, including one laptop, 7 mobile phones, 8 SIM/memory cards, and 4 pen drives. Additionally, incriminating documents and books related to the LTTE terror organization and its deceased leader, Prabhakaran, were seized.
The case originated from an incident on May 19, 2022, when two individuals, Naveen Chakravorty and Sanjay Prakash, were apprehended during a routine vehicle check at Puliyampatti division, Salem, by the TN Police.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the duo was motivated by the LTTE’s ideology, with intentions to establish an outfit resembling the proscribed terrorist organization and initiate armed resistance in Tamil Nadu. Another individual, Kabilar from Kabilan, was later arrested in connection with the case.
Taking cognizance of the gravity of the matter, the NIA took over the case on July 25, 2022, and investigations are ongoing.
