Kangana Ranaut may have experienced some past tensions with Jaya Bachchan, but she speaks highly of her now. In a recent interview with News18, the actor-turned-MP described Jaya as one of the most “dignified” women in the film industry.
“Jaya Bachchan ji is a highly respected actor. While she’s known for her short temper, I want to acknowledge the impact she made in the 1970s. At a time when women faced many challenges, she starred in films like Guddi, which sent a powerful message of women empowerment. Even now, she remains one of the most dignified figures in the industry. I feel proud to see such representation in the Rajya Sabha,” Kangana said.
Reflecting on her past criticism of Jaya, which occurred in 2020 after Jaya defended the film industry in Parliament following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Kangana stated, “That’s fine. If we have disagreements, I respect her as our elder. If she has something to say, we should take it in stride.”
Jaya Bachchan began her acting career with Satyajit Ray’s Mahanagar (1963) and made her Hindi debut in Guddi (1971). After marrying Amitabh Bachchan, she starred alongside him in iconic films like Zanjeer, Sholay, and Abhimaan. She returned to mainstream cinema in the early 2000s with Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and was last seen in his 2023 blockbuster, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Jaya is also a Padma Shri recipient and serves as a member of the Rajya Sabha.
Meanwhile, Kangana is preparing for the release of her upcoming film, Emergency.
